Prilosec is one of the main tools in treating various gastric conditions, including acid reflux disease, peptic and stomach ulcers. This medication acts by diminishing the secretion of acid in the stomach. The excessive production of this acid results in the development of many serious problems such as gastric reflux disease, so if you want to avert them, Prilosec is exactly what you need.
Certain symptoms can indicate the development of gastric reflux disease. Among them are persistent chest pain, burning sensations in the chest, and deglutitive problem. If epigastric burning torments you regularly, it may be manifestation of serious gastric condition and proper medical treatment may be required. But if you experience heartburn not very frequently, then you have no reason for panic, however you should always watch over the state of your health.
Prilosec is available without a prescription, but it is recommended only to people who experience epigastric burning several times a week. If you have occasional heartburns, it is not advisable to treat it with Prilosec. Discuss the suitability of Prilosec therapy with your doctor and notify him if you experience deglutitive problem, painful swallowing, bloody vomiting, black or bloody excrements. In case you suffer from chronic epigastric burning, experience giddiness, weakness and profuse sweating, have pains in arms, jaw, neck, shoulders, or chest, tell you physician about it before starting Prilosec therapy.
Normally it is prescribed to take one dose of Prilosec per day during two weeks. One pill of this medicine usually manages to allay epigastric burning for 24 hours. Avoid overuse of this medicine, because insufficient level of gastric acid can also have unfavorable impacts on your health. The interval between each Prilosec course must be not less than 4 months, so it is not recommended to repeat the therapy more than 3 times a year.
Do not discontinue the treatment before the established time, even if you feel much better. You may notice improvements rather quickly, however it doesn’t mean that the condition is entirely healed, and if you stop the therapy at the wrong time there is a risk of recurrence of the problem. In case the medicine doesn’t have the desirable effect or your condition aggravates, you should visit a medical specialist.
If you notice such problems as vomiting, nausea, gastric pain, regular pains in the chest, or abnormal weight loss during the course of Prilosec, contact your physician as early as possible.
